Not Firing on All Cylinders

After suffering all day on the bike, sometimes your mind goes to weird places.

Rode the Ultimate Challenge today. The only way to appropriately describe it is, “Ow! Ow! Ow! Will someone make the bad man stop!” The ride started at 10:30 this morning and I don’t get home until 9:30. Obviously, something isn’t working right in my brain today so you get a Bob Ross in a pot. Think of it as a way-better-than-a-Chia-Pet or maybe just block this one from your mind. Either way, I’m too tired to do anything else today.

Painting

Bob Ross paints a minimalist landscape.

I decided to make a little painting. I started drawing little landscapes like these in squares in the margins of lab books. They were less than a 1/4″ on a side, so they necessarily had little detail. I just scaled them up to a canvas of a whopping 2.5″ on a side. Most people can’t imagine working on such a grandiose scale, but I’m living on the edge.

I thought it was kind of a fun little painting, and I felt Bob Ross should be the one to present it.

Squirreled

This was supposed to go up yesterday.

I know that this picture has nothing to do with squirrels, but I was going to post it yesterday. I edited it and was all ready and then I don’t know what happened. But I got up this morning and realized that I didn’t post a picture yesterday.

Yesterday, I was thinking about how people are so different. Even though most of us have the same amount of fingers and eyes and everything else, there is such a variety among us. Some of us have it easy, some have it hard, but ultimately we are all in this together. That is what these smiley stickers reminded me of. We are all part of the battle against cancer. We should all be part of the solution to just being nicer to each other, to be a little more caring for those around us who are struggling.

That being said, go make someone’s day today.

Against My Better Judgement

I am, in general, not a fan of selfies. I get that they are ubiquitous and that they probably aren’t going away anytime soon, but I don’t have to take them if I don’t want to. So, I rarely do. Today was an exception. I took this at the summit of the Mount Nebo road.

The reason for the selfie wasn’t that it was a super great accomplishment, although it was a pretty tough climb of over 20 miles. But I rode with a bunch of my Huntsman friends. What you can’t see in the picture is the Tumor Raider kit. That is the name of the team that we put together for LOTOJA. It is a combination of several other teams who ride for loved ones that have died of cancer. We all ride at different speeds and so getting us all to the summit is an accomplishment in and of itself.

It was an enjoyable day with some of the best people I know. I don’t think you can ask for much more than that. And it’s always a good reminder of what we are all riding for.

Brush Fire

When you have no ideas, light one on fire.

I decided that I was going to add a little flame to my bonsai tree from a few days ago. It turns out that it was trickier than I expected. At first the flames were way too big and you couldn’t even see the tree. So, I tried it with a different accelerant and that didn’t put out enough light to see. Then I dripped fuel all over and that just became a mess. Finally, I got this one and I felt like that was a good one.
