Pear

My apple tree has no apples, but my pear tree has this.

Summer is in full swing and the trees are growing fruit. It’s an amazing thing that every year the trees bloom and make new fruit. I’m kind of excited about it now, but when the fruit starts to drop and I have to pick it up every day I think I will be less excited.

Gorilla

He looks like he’s had a hard day.

Got out on the bike today for a quick jaunt up the canyon. I was aiming for 55 minutes, but didn’t quite make that. On the plus side the descent was fast and awesome. What does this have to do with a gorilla? Not much, but I did pass the zoo on my way up and on my way home.

I feel worn out today, not really sure why though. This picture of the gorilla was kind of how I feel today, so I decided I’d use it for the picture of the day.

Star-Crossed

Or is it star-jumbled, I always get them mixed up.

Star-crossed seems like an appropriate title for this. It means that things just aren’t going to work out. This one just wasn’t going to turn out the way that I expected. I tried a few things including a composite of a couple of exposures, but it just wan’t going to fit my vision the way I went about it.

I like to try experiments when I’m doing photography. The cool thing is you never know what you are going to get. You have an idea what you want, but sometimes it just doesn’t come out the way you want. It is definitely a downside. Sometimes you get what you were looking for and on occasion you are surprised by how well things turn out. I think it is a good idea to try stuff. As long as I don’t have to leave my comfort zone to do it, that is.

Splash of Color

This stuff gets everywhere. Why is my ceiling glowing?

I was quite literal with my title today. I took some glow sticks and basically splashed the contents onto a piece of plastic and then photographed it. This is the stuff that went where I wanted it to. But the rest of the studio was far more interesting. Unfortunately, while cool to look at when I turned out the lights, there wasn’t really a good opportunity to photograph any of the other patterns that I made when I was preparing for this picture.

It was definitely fun to do this though.

Lying

On the grass watching the clouds.

I got home late today. As a result, I was tired so I just took a moment to go lie down on the grass and look up at the sky. Did you ever do that as a kid, look up at the clouds and imagine what shapes they make. These ones didn’t really remind me of anything, but in a sky covered with wispy clouds, these more puffy-like ones just stood out.

Maybe they will remind you of something though. In any case, daydream on!
